Nancy Drew & the Stolen Flannel™️
Honestly, this might be the most underrated, heartbreaking thing about the entire S3 finale. Eagle-eyed fans discerned that Nancy had clearly stolen Ace’s shirt (which is hanging next to his bed in his room) to go get “breakfast” for them. The flannel shirt was actually worn by Ace in S03E12 when Ace reassures Nancy that despite the fact that she’s been avoiding him following his confession, he understands her need to process and when she’s ready to talk to him, he’ll be there for her. Seems quite fitting then that the shirt pops up in Nancy’s alternate timeline/dreamscape where she gets to finally act on her feelings. One could infer that *that* particular shirt is symbolic of her acceptance and embracing of both Ace’s love for her as well as her love for herself. If you watch the shot where Nancy looks at Ace’s ID in her real world, later in the finale, you can see that at the start of the shot she slightly moves the flannel on the table (which seems to coincide the BTS tidbit Kennedy is offering up here). It’s a small, subtle and beautiful through-line that while I was sad to see/hear get cut, I *hope* will somehow make it’s way into a S4 - Perhaps where Nancy steals it and/or once again wears it once things are official - So please @thecw #RenewNancyDrew @cw_nancydrew so we can see its official return!
